In a labor of love and enthusiasm, Jim DeWees, has been donating his time and talents to set up a prosthetics workshop at the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) in St. Lucia. The workshop will serve to provide prosthetic limbs to amputees.
Jim explained that a big part of the process is supplying and fitting lower-limb prosthetics, but that is only part of the story. The client needs to relearn to walk unaided, to manipulate the specialized joints to bend at the correct time and to remain firm at other times. Jim DeWees and Mark D’Amico spent ten days training technicians who are now able to supply and fit knee prosthetics to amputees.
"This is charity, the pure love of Christ, in its most relevant form for these grateful recipients," said Sister Nish. Elder and Sister Nish are Humanitarian Missionaries who work with Latter-day Saint Charities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
